Quick start

Design a 230 × 450 mm RC beam to IS 456 for a factored moment of 85 kN·m and a factored shear of 60 kN, in M25 concrete and Fe415 steel.

  1. Select RC Beam, then under Design Code select IS 456.
  2. In Section Geometry, enter Width (b) 230, Depth (D) 450 and Cover 25 mm.
  3. In Material Properties, set fck (Concrete) to M25 and fy (Steel) to Fe415.
  4. In Applied Forces, enter Mu (Factored Moment) 85 kN·m and Vu (Factored Shear) 60 kN.
  5. Select Design Section.

Codes and standards

  • RC: IS 456:2000, ACI 318-19, Eurocode 2
  • Timber: IS 883:2016, NDS 2024, Eurocode 5

Inputs

  • Member type, section size, cover, concrete and steel grades.
  • Beams: Mu, Vu (and torsion). Columns: Pu, Mux, Muy, unsupported length.

Outputs and exports

  • Flexure, shear, torsion, crack width; column P–M interaction and biaxial bending.
  • Advanced checks below the designer: torsion, moment redistribution, joint shear, transfer beam, steel tension member (IS 800 Cl 6 with its bolted/welded end), pretensioned beam with IS 1343 losses, gantry girder from crane data (IS 875-2 impact/surge, IS 800 LTB, web bearing, deflection) and one PEB portal member under N + M (both IS 800 Cl 9.3.2.2 equations).
  • Exports: PDF report.

Limits

  • One section at a time; the member forces come from your own analysis.
