Quick start

Design a single-level propped basement to IS 456 and IS 3370: 3.5 m deep, 15 × 10 m in plan, with the water table 2.0 m below ground.

  1. Under Design Code, select IS 456.
  2. In the Geometry step, enter Basement Depth (to underside of base slab) 3.5 m, Plan Length 15 m and Plan Width 10 m. Keep Wall Thickness at 300 mm and Base Slab at 400 mm.
  3. Go to the Soil & loads step, expand Soil & Loading and set Water Table to 2.0 m. Keep SBC at 200 kN/m², γ soil at 18 and φ (friction) at 30.
  4. Go to the Materials step, expand Materials, and confirm that Wall Support is set to Propped and Water-Retaining is ticked.
  5. Select Design, then select the Results tab.

Codes and standards

  • IS 456 with IS 3370 crack-width limits
  • ACI 318
  • Eurocode 2

Inputs

  • Basement depth (ground level to the underside of the base slab — add the slab thickness to a floor depth), plan length and width, wall and slab thicknesses.
  • Wall support: Propped (by the slab above) or Cantilever.
  • SBC, soil properties and water table; surcharge.

Outputs and exports

  • Wall and base-slab moments and steel, crack width, uplift factor of safety.
  • Exports: design calculation PDF, vector PDF, Excel, DXF, JSON.

Limits

  • Waterproofing is checked as crack-width control on the concrete; membranes are drawn, not designed.
